THROUGH A DIFFERENT LENS

A monthly online practice space for parents, caregivers, and educators to better understand ourselves and the children in our lives — evidence-informed ideas and practical tools, no prior knowledge needed.

THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: When Your Child Won't Talk

Through a Different Lens is a series of practical online practice spaces designed to help us better understand ourselves and the children in our lives. Together, we'll explore simple, evidence-informed ideas and practical tools that make emotions, behaviour and human connection easier to understand, and easier to navigate in everyday life.

"How was your day?" "Fine." "What happened at school?" "Nothing." "What's going on?" "I don't know."

If those conversations feel familiar, you're not alone. You're simply trying to understand what's going on in your child's world. You want them to know they can talk to you. But somehow, the more questions you ask, the quieter they seem to become.

In this month's practice space, we're exploring why children don't always have the words to explain what's happening inside them, and how small shifts in the way we show up can create safer, more meaningful conversations.

This isn't about finding the perfect thing to say. It's about understanding what's happening beneath the silence, becoming more curious instead of more urgent, and discovering practical ways to connect without adding more pressure.

This is a space to slow down, reflect, ask questions, and explore a different way of understanding what's happening beneath behaviour.

YOU'LL LEAVE WITH:

• A different way of understanding why children sometimes struggle to open up

• Greater confidence in recognising what behaviour may be communicating

• One simple practice you can begin using straight away to create calmer, more connected conversations

• The opportunity to reflect, ask questions, and learn alongside other parents and professionals

THIS PRACTICE SPACE IS FOR:

• Parents and caregivers

• Educators and paediatric professionals

• Anyone wanting to better understand children's behaviour and communication

No prior knowledge is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to explore a different perspective.
